Team Programmes

Practical, psychology-led development that helps teams trust each other, communicate honestly and perform consistently under pressure.

Team development is structured work that improves how a group of people perform together. It covers trust, communication, accountability and the behaviours a team defaults to when pressure rises. T2 delivers team development programmes for organisations across the UK, grounded in performance psychology and designed around the specific team involved.

What is team development?

Team development improves how people work together as a unit. It targets the things that sit between individuals — communication, trust, accountability, shared standards and how the team behaves when things get difficult. It is different from training individuals separately, because the performance problem usually lives in the space between people rather than inside any one of them.

Most teams do not underperform because the people are not capable. They underperform because they do not understand each other well enough to work together properly.

Team development and team building are not the same thing

Both have their place. T2 runs both. If a shared experience is what the team needs, T2 Unity is the right starting point. If the issue is how the team performs together week to week, team development is the answer.

Team building Team development
Purpose Connection, energy, shared experience Sustained change in how the team performs
Timeframe A day or an event Typically three to six months
Method Activities and challenges Diagnostic, psychometrics, facilitated sessions, practical application
Measured by How the day felt Behaviour, communication and results over time
Best for New teams, reconnecting, morale Teams that are stuck, changing, or capable but not cohesive

When a team needs development

Teams tend to reach for development at a recognisable point. The individuals are good. The results are not what they should be. Something in how the team operates is getting in the way, and nobody can quite name it.

You might recognise some of these:

  • Capable people who deliver individually but not collectively
  • Decisions that take too long because nobody wants to have the difficult conversation
  • The same disagreement resurfacing every few weeks without ever resolving
  • A team that has grown, restructured or gained a new leader and has not settled
  • Trust that has quietly eroded, usually after a period of pressure
  • Silos forming between people who technically sit on the same team
  • Meetings where the real conversation happens afterwards, in smaller groups

None of these are skills problems. Sending everyone on a communication course will not fix them, because the issue is not that people lack technique. It is that they do not understand what drives the person sitting opposite them.

How T2 delivers team development

T2 team development programmes follow four stages. The frameworks stay consistent. The application is built around the team.

  1. Diagnose the team Every programme starts with understanding where the team actually is. That means conversations with the team leader and the team members, and behavioural profiling using PRINT® and The Attributes. PRINT® identifies core motivations and how each person behaves under pressure. The Attributes measures the traits that determine performance in difficult conditions. The output is a clear picture of the team's dynamic, not a personality label.
  2. Build shared understanding The team comes together to work through what the profiling revealed. This is usually the point where things shift. People see, often for the first time, why a colleague reacts the way they do, and that it is not personal. Shared understanding is what makes everything afterwards possible.
  3. Build practical capability From there the programme builds the capability the team needs — having difficult conversations without damaging the relationship, holding each other accountable, making decisions when people disagree, and keeping standards when resource is tight. This is where Teamship sits, T2's framework for how high performing teams operate together.
  4. Embed it Development that stops when the workshop stops does not change anything. T2 programmes build in follow-up sessions, practical application between sessions and measurement against what the team said it wanted to change. For organisations developing teams continuously, the T2 People Performance Partnership provides ongoing access across the year.

What team development changes

The teams T2 works with report change in a consistent set of areas.

  • Communication People say the thing that needs saying, earlier, and in a way the other person can hear.
  • Accountability Standards become explicit and the team holds itself to them, rather than waiting for the leader to.
  • Decision speed Disagreement gets resolved in the room instead of in corridors afterwards.
  • Trust People assume good intent because they understand each other's motivations.
  • Retention Teams that work well together lose fewer people.
  • Consistency under pressure The team's behaviour holds when conditions get difficult, which is when most teams come apart.

What They Say

  • From the beginning, it felt like a very trusted relationship. What T2 brought back was a real understanding of our challenges and how their programme could help us move through them. It's a difficult bunch to keep engaged, but what I really saw was the team seeing the benefit and where it could help them.
Lucinda Jones DVP ESI Commercial Ops, ADP
  • T2 are not only fantastic to work with but impactful which is why year on year we choose them as a key partner in our leadership development programmes.
Partnership Programme Member NHS Organisational Development Manager
  • It’s been brilliant. The facilitators put everyone at ease & got my usually quiet team talking. I now better understand my people as a manager. That’s invaluable.
Tim Woodward Superintendent Registrar, East Riding of Yorkshire Council

Why organisations choose T2 for team development

T2 has worked with teams across manufacturing, retail, professional services, technology and professional sport since 2015. Clients include Belstaff and Rolls-Royce.

Three things make the work different.

Everything is grounded in performance psychology rather than generic training content. T2 consultants come from psychology, L&D and commercial backgrounds, and the programmes draw on PRINT® and The Attributes rather than off-the-shelf models.

Nothing is delivered as a standard course. The frameworks are proven and the application is built around the specific team, its context and what it is trying to change.

The work is designed to last past the final session. Follow-up, application and measurement are part of the programme rather than an optional extra.

Team Development FAQs

What is team development?

Team development is structured work that improves how a group of people perform together, covering trust, communication, accountability and behaviour under pressure. It differs from individual training because it targets the relationships and dynamics between people rather than the skills of any one person.

What is the difference between team development and team building?

Team building creates connection through shared experience, usually in a single day. Team development changes how a team performs over a longer period, typically three to six months, using diagnostics, psychometrics and facilitated work. Team building is an event. Team development is a process. T2 delivers both.

How long does a team development programme take?

Most T2 team development programmes run over three to six months, with sessions spaced to allow the team to apply what they have worked on. Shorter interventions are possible where a team needs to address one specific issue. Longer programmes suit teams going through significant change.

How much does team development cost?

Cost depends on team size, programme length and whether psychometrics are included. Team workshop costs start from £2,500 per day.

What size team does this work for?

T2 works with teams from around six people up to large departments. Below six, individual coaching or a leadership workshop is usually a better fit. Above around twenty-five, the programme is typically structured around sub-teams that come together at key points.

Does team development work for remote and hybrid teams?

Yes. Remote and hybrid teams often need it more, because the informal understanding that builds naturally in an office has to be created deliberately. T2 delivers in person, virtually and through blended programmes. In-person sessions tend to create the strongest shift, particularly early on.

How do you measure the impact of team development?

Measurement is agreed at the start against what the team wants to change. That usually combines behavioural measures from PRINT® and The Attributes, team feedback gathered before and after, and organisational measures the client already tracks such as engagement, retention or delivery performance.

Can development be designed around our specific team?

Yes. Every T2 programme starts with understanding the organisation, the team and what it is dealing with. The frameworks are consistent. The application is always built for the team in front of us.

Can T2 support a team going through significant change?

Yes. Restructure, growth, new leadership and shifting priorities all put pressure on trust and communication, which is usually when performance drops. T2 works with teams through those periods to rebuild cohesion while the change is happening rather than afterwards.
